Kit Contents See Figure 5 and Table 1. PREPARATION To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b) 1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the main fuse. 2. Remove the rider seat and passenger pillion per the instructions in the service manual. 3. See Figure 1. Remove the four rear fender mounting bolts (1) and washers (2), and the passenger grab strap (3). If necessary, move the ECM to better access the fender mounting bolts. 1 3 2 is05463a 1. Bolt (4) 2. Disconnect the six-way tail lamp socket housing and four- way turn signal lamp socket housing from the vehicle main harness following the instructions in the service manual. Disconnect the two-way license-plate illuminator socket housing from the tail lamp harness. 5. If a luggage rack, sissy bar upright or both have been mounted on the rear fender , remove the two screws and washers, and two carriage bolts and nuts that secure the luggage rack bracket to the seat pan. NOTE The rack and/or upright will remain attached to the rear fender when the fender is removed. 6. Remove the rear fender from the seat pan by lifting upward and sliding the fender back. 7. If a center-mounted license bracket is installed, it can remain attached to the seat pan. If a side-mounted license bracket is installed: a. Remove the license plate from the vehicle (if installed), and set aside for later installation. b. See Figure 2. Remove the two bolts (8) holding the side license-plate bracket (1) to the seat pan (9). c. Remove the license-plate adjuster bracket (2) carriage bolt (3), washer (4) and lock nut (5), and the license- plate illuminator (6) and screws (7) from the bracket. d. The original equipment (OE) license-plate bracket (1), screws (7) and bolts (8) can be discarded. Set the remaining items aside for installation to the new side license-plate bracket. 8. Remove and discard the rear side reflectors (10). If a center-mounted license bracket is installed, remove the reflectors from the license bracket sides. Remove any residual adhesive from the bracket. If a side-mounted license bracket is installed, remove the reflectors from the upper frame just forward of the shock absorbers. Remove any residual adhesive from the reflector mounting area on the frame. NOTE Access to the shock absorber adjustment collar is more difficult with the saddlebags in place. 9. Adjust the rear suspension preload, if desired, per the instructions in the service manual

Refer to service manual for location. 2. Remove seat using service manual instructions. 3. Remove rear tail light using service manual instructions. 4. Remove rear turn signals using service manual instruc- tions. 5. See Figure 1. Clip the cable strap (1) to free the rear harness from the chassis seat pan. 6. Frame rail 4. Mounting bracket Figure 2. Remove Fender NOTE The fender support covers do not have to be removed from the upper shock absorber bolts. 7. See Figure 2. Remove the two rear fender support cover screws (1) and remove covers (2) and fender mounting -J04721 bracket (4). Repeat for opposite side and carefully remo ve fender and place it on a non-scratch surface. 8. See Figure 3. Clip and remove two cable straps (1). Pull wire harness three inches towards the license plate bracket. 9. Remove flange nuts (2) from both sides of license/tail light bracket stud plates (3) and remove bracket. Install new license/tail light bracket using stud plates and flange nuts previously removed. Tighten nuts to 5-6 ft-lbs (6.8-8.1 Nm) . 11. See Figure 2. Install rear fender by installing two screws (1) on each side through the fender support covers (2), frame rails (3) and into the fender mounting brackets (4). Tighten to 12-18 ft-lbs (16.3-24.4 Nm) 12. See Figure 1. Connect rear harness connector to 8-place connector on main harness. 13. Use a large cable tie strap from kit to secure the rear harness to seat pan. 14. Install rear turn signal lights using service manual instructions. 15. Verify that there is no excess wire harness near the stud plate then secure the harness with a large cable strap where the straps were previously removed. 16. See Figure 4. Secure the turn signal harness (3) to the stud plate (1) using small cable strap (2) and route the turn signal wire through the tail light bracket clip (4) as shown.

INSTALLATION 1. Refer to service manual and remove the existing seat, seat post, washer and screw. Do not remove grommet or T-spacer from rear fender. Save the washer and screw for later installation. 2. See Figure 1. Clean the frame surface where the hook- and-loop strip will be attached with a 1:1 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. Let it dry completely. 3. Install the frame cover to the frame as follows: a. Remove the loop side of the hook-and-loop (3) from the bottom of the frame cover (1). b. Remove the protective tape from the hook-and-loop strip and attach it to the frame as shown. Wrap it under the frame or trim excess length, if necessary. c. Orient the frame cover so that it covers the seat pan and secure the cover to the frame with the hook-and- loop strips. 4. See Figure 3. Install two springs (2) to the mounting bracket (1), oriented as shown, with screws (3). Tighten screws to 25-30 ft-lbs (34-41 Nm) . 5. See Figure 3. Install mounting bracket to frame tab a. Install mounting bracket (1) over frame tab. Orient it so that the two retaining tabs on the mounting bracket will hold down and be fully seated on the frame cover. b. Secure mounting bracket with screw (B), washer (C) and nut (4). Do not tighten. c. Center the frame cover and mounting bracket to the motorcycle frame. d. Tighten mounting bracket screw and nut to 15-20 ft- lbs (20-27 Nm) . 6. Install seat pivot bracket (15), washers (14) and screws (13) to the seat. Tighten screws to 48-72 in-lbs (5.5-8.0 Nm) . 7. Remove the rear fuel tank mounting screw, washers, nut and thread protector. Save washers for later installation

1. Un-pack the accessory pack from under the new seat. 2. Remove the stock seat from your bike. 3. From the underside of the stock seat, remove the 2 metal hooks fixed by a single bolt to the seat pan. There is one metal hook on each side, as shown in the photo, right. The securing bolt also holds the safety strap on some seat types. 4. Replace the stock bolt on the old seat. 5. From the underside of your new Retro Racer Seat remove the 2 bolts provided each side of the seat pan, as shown in the photo below. 6. Fit one metal hook each side, making sure they face the same direction as on the stock seat. 7. If it is wished to remove the safety strap (Grey Top and Black seats only) do so at this point: NOTE: Removing the Safety Strap makes the bike suitable only for Solo use. 8. Remove the accessory pack from under the seat. Fit the rear brackets to the rear of the seat, as shown in the photo, right. 9. The rear fixing lugs are bolted to the seat pan, not moulded as on the stock seat. The photo below shows the attached bracket. 10. Tighten so that the bracket is held, but not tight, then test fit on the bike. 11. When properly lined up remove the seat and tighten all the bolts to 12Nm 12. Finally re-fit the new seat, using Jenks Thumb Bolts for preference: Standard Length: SBB (Black) 02 SBN (Nickel) 02 Hidden Length UTB (Black) 02 UTN (Nickel) 02 NOTE: Regularly check the Bolts are tight, approx 20Nm, which is about as tight as can be made using fingers on the knurled grip. Do not tighten with pliers. For added security, lock washers may be used if desired
