Remove the fairing lower from the engine guard using the procedure provided in your Harley-Davidson user/service manual. Do not remove the glove box from the fairing. Vent Placement, Hole Drilling and Cut-Out: Caution: Place cloth or cushion underneath fairing lower to protect it from getting scratched during the following procedures. LV-2,3,4 Installation Copyright 2003-2004 2 3. Working inside the fairing and using the bottom of the glove box as a guide, position a closed vent parallel to and no more than 1/16″ from the rear edge of the fairing. Position the assembly so that the vent side tabs are no more than 1/8″ below the bottom of the glove box. (You want the vent assembly as close as possible to the glove box but with enough room so that the side tabs do not touch the glove box when the vent is closed! ) Mark the back two holes with a pencil then remove the vent and replace it with the cutting template in the exact same location. See photo to the right to assist in judging the cutting template orientation. 4. Lift out the glove box, steady the template with one hand and using an 11/64″ drill bit carefully drill 1 hole near the back edge of the fairing through the bottom corner hole of the cutting template. Install one screw and nut and tighten slightly to stabilize the template’s location. On the other corner (same edge) , drill the second hole. (You cannot drill the remaining holes from inside the fairing because the front edge of the fairing lower is in the way. ) 5. Remove the screw and nut and re-position the cutting template on the outside of the fairing with the three hole side of the template towards the front of the fairing (away from the edge of the fairing) . Install two screws and nuts into the open holes. Drill the remaining two corner holes and install two screws and nuts. Change drill bit size to 1/8″ to drill the final center latch hole. Next skip down to one of the two following procedures to make the vent opening using either A) Dremel tool/RotoZip router or B) coping saw/frameless hacksaw

INSTALLATION 1. Remove all articles from inside, then thoroughly wash and dry the saddlebag lid. 2. Close the saddlebag lid. Cut a piece of masking tape at least 10 inches (25 cm) long and lay it lengthwise down the center of the top outer surface of the lid starting at the front. Mark a line lengthwise down the tape, measuring an equal distance from each side so the line is centered on the lid. 3. Obtain the template (7) from the kit, and position it on the line, with the short leg held against the front surface of the lid. Carefully mark the tape at the two arrows, then remove the template and set it aside. 4. At each of the marks made in Step 3, carefully drill a 1/8 inch (3 mm) diameter pilot hole. 5. Using the pilot holes drilled in Step 4, use a 9/32 inch (7 mm) diameter bit to finish drilling the holes for the trim piece. NOTES Before installing the lid trim, test fit to ensure adequate clearance of both mounting pads through the drilled holes in the saddlebag lid. The trim pieces are side-specific; the front legs are angled to match the lid front. If the pads do not fit loosely in the holes, it may be necessary to slightly enlarge the holes to provide clearance and maintain proper alignment of the trim on the lid. Clean the saddlebag lid inside and out, and the inside of the saddlebag with a soft cloth, making sure to remove any shavings left from drilling. 6. Obtain the correct saddlebag lid trim (1 or 2) and a trim gasket (3) from the kit. Peel the liner from the adhesive backing of the gasket. 7. Position the gasket onto the bottom surface of the trim, making sure the gasket remains inside the outer edges of the trim, and smooth it into place. 8. Obtain a pan head screw (6) from the kit. 9. Using a T25 TORX® drive head, start the screw part way into one of the holes on the underside of the trim, to form a few threads in the hole, then back the screw out of the hole. Repeat for the second hole. 10. Install the trim piece onto the lid, fitting the mounting pads into the holes drilled in Step 5. 11. Place a flat washer (5) from the kit onto the threads of the screw (6), followed by a rubber washer (4). Place two drops of Loctite® 243 (blue) onto the screw threads. 12. While supporting the lid trim in place, open the saddlebag lid and install the washers and screw through the lid into one of the trim mounting pads, finger tight. Repeat for the remaining trim mounting pad, with another screw, flat washer and rubber washer. 13. Apply a small amount of pressure to the trim piece above each screw and continue to tighten both screws to 25-28 in-lbs (2.8-3.2 Nm) . 14. Repeat steps 1 through 13 for the opposite saddlebag lid

SADDLEBAG INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 3. Remove the rear shock absorber bolt (Figure 1, Item 1). Position the 0.531 x 0.75 x 0.25 inch spacer (7) and the front saddlebag bracket attachment hole over the rear shock absorber bolt location. Secure with the 1/2- 13 x 3.75 inch screw (5). 2. See Figure 3. Position the 0.325 x 0.75 x 0.25 inch spacer (8) and the rear saddlebag attachment hole over the second hole on the rear of the fender, fender support cover, and relocation pad. From the underside of the fender, insert a 5/16-18 x 3.00 inch screw (6) and secure with locknut (10). Tighten locknut (10) to 24-27 ft-lbs (32.5-36.6 Nm) . 3. Tighten the front screw (5) to 21-27 ft-lbs (28.5-36.6 Nm) . 4. See Figure 3. Assemble an isolator washer (12) onto an isolator bushing (13). Place a screw (15) through the bushing. 5. Place the screw and bushing assembly into the top hole inside the saddlebag back. 6. See Figure 3. Push a saddlebag isolator (14) over bushing with cone shape toward saddlebag. 7. Place saddlebag in position on bracket and insert the new screw (15) into the bracket. Do not tighten. 8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for remaining holes. With all isolators in place, tighten screws to 96-120 in-lbs (10.8- 13.6 Nm) . 9. Repeat Steps 1 through 8 for the opposite saddlebag. 10. Raise rear wheel until the rear shock absorbers align with shock absorber mounting holes on the swingarm. Support the wheel to prevent it from falling during the following step. 11. See Figure 1. Attach rear shock absorber to swingarm by installing bolt (1), washer (2) and nut (4). Tighten bolt to 45-50 ft-lbs (61.1-67.9 Nm) . Repeat step on opposite side of motorcycle. INSTALL REFLECTORS Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 requires motorcycles to be equipped with rear and side reflectors. Be sure rear and side reflectors are properly mounted. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00336b) 1. See Figure 3. Measure approximately 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) from the bottom edge of the saddlebag. Orient the reflector horizontally and carefully center the reflector mount between the straps of bags with straps or locate it at the rearward portion of bags without straps. Mark hole location. 2. Using appropriate tool, make two 3/16 in. holes in sad- dlebag. 3. Install reflector mount (3) on saddlebag using two pushnuts (2). 4. Remove adhesive backing from reflector (4) and install on mount. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the opposite saddlebag. INSTALL SEAT After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b) 1. See Service Manual instruction to install the seat
