Additional Fitment Information Detachables NOTE If motorcycle has not been altered from fixed saddlebag hardware to accessory mounting detachable docking points. the separate purchase of Turn Signal Mounting Bar (Part Number 68611-98) is required for sufficient lock clearance. This kit is available at your Harley-Davidson Dealer. Installing these saddlebags on models equipped with a detachable sissy bar or detachable luggage rack requires the additional purchase of mounting hardware kit as follows: Hardware Kit Fitment 53075-03 2003 and later FLSTC models with detachables 53009-03 1987 through 2002 FLSTC models with detachables See Service Parts Page for kit contents. Additional weight can affect motorcycle stability, handling characteristics, and safe operating speed. Do not exceed 7 lbs. (3.18Kg) maximum load in each saddlebag. Evenly distribute weight between each saddlebag. Improper loading can cause vehicle handling problems leading to death or serious injury. Wide Tire If a wide tire kit has been installed, utilize the hardware and installation instructions found in that kit to reorient the fasteners to come from the inside to the outside of the finder. Button head screws from wide tire kit must be installed from the inside out, with the button heads on the inside of the fender. Failure to do so could result in bolt contacting tire, which could result in death or serious injury. Installation NOTE A Service Manual for your vehicle is available at your Harley-Davidson Dealer. 1. Remove seat. To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative cable first) before proceeding. (00048a) Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with the negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks may cause a battery explosion which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a) 2. Disconnect battery cables, negative cable first. 3. Following instructions in applicable Service Manual, remove original saddlebags from supports. Install Turn Signal Mounting Bar If motorcycle is not equipped with accessory mounting detachable docking points, install Turn Signal Mounting Bar (Part No. 68611-98) following instructions provided with the kit. See Figure 1

INSTALLATION NOTE It is easiest to mount these backrest pads with the sissy bar upright kit already installed. 1. Install the sissy bar upright according to the instructions included with that kit. 2. Hold backrest pad against upright with pad facing forward. 3. See Figure 1. See Figure 2. Begin threading each of the two button head cap screws. Threading these screws may be a little difficult at first since the screw must break through plastic sheeting inside the backrest pad to reach the threaded insert. It may be necessary to use a 4 mm hex wrench, while holding the backrest pad tight against the upright to get the screws started. 5. Using a 4 mm hex wrench (allen wrench), tighten each screw a little at a time, alternating side-to-side. This is done to ensure the vinyl stretches evenly in the recessed channel that the upright bar is drawn into. Continue alternating side-to-side until both screws are secure. 6. Tighten both screws to 50-60 in-lbs (5.6-6.8 Nm)

HARLEY DAVIDSON STAMPED MINI AND SHORT BACKREST KITS INSTALLATION MANUAL

These Stamped Backrest kits are designed for installation on all vehicles with Mini and Short sissy bar uprights. Kit Number 52527-01 is only for models equipped with a Mini sissy bar upright. Kit Number 52531-01 is only for models equipped with a Short sissy bar upright. See Service Parts illustration for kit contents. Installation 1. Remove stock chrome backrest bracket. Discard hardware. 2 Install backing plate (2) with 1/4 inch x .50 long screws (4) supplied with kit through mounting bracket and into backrest. Tighten screws to 7 ft-lbs (9.5 Nm). 3. Position stamped cover (1) so tabs and cover are slightly below notches in backing plate. Slide stamped cover (1) into position by sliding upwards until cover locks in position. 4. Install two #8 screws (3) through bottom of stamped cover (1) and then into backing plate (2). Tighten screws to 18-24 in-lbs (2.0 to 2.7 Nm)

INSTALLATION (2000 THROUGH 2002) Refer to the instructions included with kit 53388-03 for installation on 2000 through 2002 models. INSTALLATION (2003 AND LATER) NOTE To keep the fender aligned, completely install the sideplate on one side of the motorcycle before proceeding to the second side. The sissy bar should be installed last. 1. For models equipped with saddlebags: a. Remove the saddlebag, and retain the mounting hardware for later reinstallation. b. See Figure 1. Remove the bolt (A) and washer (4) that secures the rear fender to the fender brace. Discard the bolt and washer. Remove and retain the two saddlebag mounting studs (C) and nut plate (D) for later use. For models NOT equipped with saddlebags: a. See Figure 1. Remove the two rearmost bolts (A), washers (4) and nut plate that secure the rear fender to the fender brace. Discard the bolts and washers. b. Remove the bolt (B) and washer (4) that secure the fender and brace to the frame. Discard the bolt and washer. 2. See Figure 1. Position the correct sideplate to the outside of the fender brace. 3. With saddlebags: Apply LOCTITE 243 (blue) to the 3/8- 16 threads of the saddlebag mounting studs (C) and reinstall the studs through the sideplate, fender brace, frame and fender, and thread into the stock nut plates (D). Install one chrome 3/8-16 screw (3) and chrome washer (4) from the kit through the rear hole in the sideplate, fender brace and fender, and thread into the stock nut plate (D). Without saddlebags: Install three chrome 3/8-16 screws (3) and chrome washers (4) from the kit through the holes in the side plate, fender brace and fender, and thread into the stock nut plates (D). 4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the opposite side. 5. Install a sissy bar (not included in the kit) into the side- plates. Apply LOCTITE 262 (red) to the threads of the chrome 1/4-20 capscrews (5) and insert them into the sideplate holes. Tighten to 8-10 ft-lbs (11-14 Nm) . 6. Tighten the bolts (3) and/or saddlebag mounting studs to 21-27 ft-lbs (28.5-36.6 Nm) . 7. Reinstall the saddlebags

INSTALLATION Passenger Upright Installation 1. See Figure 1. Stand behind the motorcycle, and place (10) the front upright notches (2) into the front docking points (3). 2. See Figure 2. Check for correct notch engagement. NOTE Failure to correctly engage the sideplate notches to the docking points may result in damage to the rear docking points. 3. See Figure 1. Pull (11) the rotary latches (4) back into their rearmost position. Align the latches over the rear docking points (7), making sure the latches and rear notches (6) fit into the neck (8) of the rear docking points. NOTE This may require some gentle squeezing or spreading of the upright sideplates. 4. Push downward (12) on the sideplates, and close the rotary latches by pressing (13) the latch lever as far forward as it will go. A click will be heard when the latch is in place. INSTALLATION NOTE Cover the rear fender with a clean shop towel to prevent scratching. Damage to the finish could result. 1. See Figure 1. Remove the four button-head TORX screws attaching the sissy bar (5) to the sideplates (4). Discard the screws 2. Remove the sissy bar and set it aside. For Rigid-Mount Sideplates only: Loosen, but do not remove, the hardware securing the sideplates to the motorcycle. 3. Position the luggage rack between the sideplates. Reinstall the sissy bar into the sideplate channels. 4. Apply Loctite 271 (Red) to the flat head TORX screws (2) from the kit, and insert through the holes in the luggage rack (1), sideplate, and sissy bar. Tighten the screws to 8-10 ft-lbs (10.8-13.6 Nm) . For Rigid-Mount Sideplates only: Apply Loctite 271 (Red) to the screws securing the sideplates to the motorcycle, and tighten to 21-27 ft-lbs (28.5-36.6 Nm) . 5. Remove the backing strip from the two rubber bumpers (3) and install onto the luggage rack. a. Align the notches in the bumper with the bottom edge of the channel on the sideplate. b. Wrap the bumper up the side of the luggage rack channel and across the bottom of the sissy bar. When properly installed the bumpers will cover the lower flat head screws, and will bend around the lower edge of the channel. Do not exceed luggage rack weight capacity. Too much weight can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00373a) NOTE Maximum luggage rack weight capacity is ten pounds (4.5 Kg)

Using a Terminal Pick Tool (1), press locking tabs and disconnect turn signal connectors (2-place, Items 2 and 3) from circuit board. 5. Feed turn signal wiring and connector through opening in circuit board assembly and into rear wheel area. NOTE FXST/S/B tail lamp and connectors are positioned 180° from orientation shown in Figure 2. 6. Reach under fender to locate clips fastening turn signal wires in place. Carefully pull wires out of clips, and pull turn signal connectors and wires out from under fender. a. Remove two-inch (51 mm) section of conduit 4 inches (102 mm) from turn signal connectors. b. Cut black turn signal wire about 5-1/2 inches (140 mm) from its connector. c. Cut violet/brown turn signal wire about 4-1/2 inches (114 mm) from its connector. d. Save cut wires with respective turn signal connectors. 7. Remove the sissy bar and/or sideplate assembly, if equipped

INSTALLATION NOTE The Detachable Sissy Bar Upright can be installed on either a two-point or four-point Docking Kit. 1. If not already in place, install the Detachable Docking Hardware Kit (either two-point or four-point) to the vehicle per the instructions in that kit. 2. See Figure 2. While standing behind the motorcycle, place the left-side and right-side front upright notches (with bushings in place) onto the docking points (A) inboard of the upper shock absorber mounts. Make sure the notch bushings (9) seat fully into the shock absorber docking points. 3. See Figure 2, arrows (D) and (E), and Figure 1. Position the rotary latches (4) over the rear docking points (3). Check to be sure the upright sides (1) and latches fit into the neck (7) of the rear docking points as shown. This may require some gentle squeezing or spreading of the sissy bar upright sides. NOTE After installing the sissy bar upright, check to be sure the sissy bar is secure. The front and rear docking points must be fully engaged. See Figure 1 for correct engagement. 4. Push the rear of the sissy bar downward and close the latches by pressing the latch lever as far forward as it will go. You will hear a “CLICK” when the latch is in place. If the latch does not easily close, do not force. Check the sissy bar alignment again, as described in steps 2 and 3. 5. To remove the sissy bar upright, press the release button (G) on each side and pull the latch levers back. Carefully lift the rear of the sissy bar up and pull the upright out of the front docking points
