INSTALLATION 1. Remove seat, left saddlebag, left side cover and air cleaner assembly following instructions in applicable Service Manual. 2. Review the CRUISE CONTROL-ULTRA MODELS section in the applicable Service Manual before attempting to install this kit. Install Cruise Control Module To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a) 1. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual and remove bat- tery. 1 is04799 1. Cruise control module mounting hole (3) Figure 1. Battery Box (Right Side View) 2. See Figure 1. In battery box, identify the location of the three mounting holes (1) (on left side of panel) for mounting the cruise control module. 3. See Figure 10. Obtain the cruise control module (1) with cruise cable attached and three grommets (5) from kit. Install the grommets on studs of cruise control module with small diameters outward. 4. See Figure 2. While holding cruise control assembly in place near its mounting location, feed the cruise control cable through the hole in frame crossmember plate and route under rear spark plug wire staying on inner side of fuel line components. Carefully curve cable toward the right and continue routing up under the fuel tank and over the top of the engine stabilizer bracket, then down between cylinder heads. Leave in place temporarily. 5. See Figure 10 and obtain a harness retainer (4) from kit and secure the cruise cable to crossmember plate with barb as shown. On California models, remove the EVAP hose from cable clip and secure hose with one of the cable strap (8)

Installation 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the maxi-fuse. 2. Note the position of each spark plug wire in the ignition coil, then disconnect the two wires. 3. If there is an existing coil cover: Remove and discard the coil-cover mounting screws and spacers. Remove and discard the coil cover. If there is not an existing coil cover: Remove and discard the two coil mounting screws. 4. See the Service Parts illustration. Obtain the coil cover bracket (3), two long screws (4) and two spacers (2) from the kit. 5. Insert the screw into one of the holes in the bracket as shown, through a spacer, and into a coil mounting hole. Repeat with the second screw and spacer. 6. Assemble the coil to the electrical caddy with the two screws. Tighten the screws to 50 in-lbs (5.6 Nm). 7. Obtain the new chrome coil cover (1) from the kit. Position the cover over the coil, and fasten to the coil cover bracket with the three chrome screws (6) and washers (7) from the kit. Do not fully tighten the screws at this time. 8. Connect the spark plug wires through the holes in the side of the coil cover onto the correct coil terminals. 9. Adjust the cover to center the spark-plug wire boots in the coil cover holes for best appearance. Tighten the three chrome screws securely 10. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to install the maxi-fuse

REMOVAL 1. Remove existing seat and grab strap (if equipped) following instructions in the service manual. 2. Refer to the service manual and remove the left side cover and battery. 3. See Figure 5. Pull plastic spark plug wire clip out of the hole in the frame plate at the location where the adjustment handle bracket is going to mount. Discard plastic hose clip. 4. Remove the mid-frame air deflector upper left mounting bolt and washer. Save for installation. 5. If equipped with a grab rail: See Figure 1. Remove grab rail screws (1) and discard. 6. Remove wire harness retention clip located above the bank angle sensor. Discard clip. 7. Remove screws (3) holding the bank angle sensor (4). 1 3 2 4 is06104 1. Grab rail screw (2) 2. Grab rail 3. Align the clip nut hole with alignment hole (3). Follow the instructions included with the Mid-Frame Air Deflector Kit to install the four self-clinching special nuts. 2. Move the electrical connector so that the backrest mounting base does not interfere with it. 3. See Figure 3. Install mounting bracket (8) to mounting base (4) with screw (6) and flange nut (7). Tighten screw to 72-96 in-lbs (8-11 Nm) . NOTE Only use the specified screw to install the mounting bracket to the bank angle sensor. 4. Secure the mounting bracket (8) to the bank angle sensor bracket with 1/4-20 x 5/8 inch screws (5). 5. If installing grab strap (9), install backrest mounting base and grab strap with screws (1) and washers (2). If grab rail is installed, install backrest mounting base with screws (1) and washers (2)

On motorcycles equipped with oxygen sensors, disconnect the rear sensor connector. 4. See Figure 2. Remove screw (2) and washer from the lower seat post (1) and discard. -J04294 1 of 2 5. Disconnect spark plug wires and primary wire from ignition coil. 6. See Figure 3. Loosen the bracket screws (1). Remove seat post screw (2) and seat post with ignition coil and cover. 7. Install Ignition Coil to Seat Post INSTALL 1. See Figure 4. Install ignition coil (2) to new seat post using screws (3). Tighten ignition coil screws to 10-15 ft-lbs (13.6-20.3 Nm) . 2. Install coil cover (4) to seat post with screw (5) and tighten to 30-40 in-lbs (3.4-4.5 Nm) . 3. See Figure 1. Place seat post (1) in position and attach lower post with screw (2), washers (3) and dome nut (4). Tighten screw (2) to 10-15 ft-lbs (13.6-20.3 Nm) . 4. See Figure 3. Attach upper seat post with screw (2). Tighten screw (2) to 12-15 ft-lbs (16.2-20.3 Nm) . Tighten bracket screws (1) to 12-15 (16.2-20.3 Nm) . 5. Connect primary wire to ignition coil. 6. Connect spark plug wires to ignition coil. The rear cylinder plug wire attaches to the top coil post. Ensure that spark plug wire boots are fastened securely. 7. Connect rear oxygen sensor connector, if equipped. 8. Reconnect battery negative cable
