INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 1. Remove stock front fork stem bolt and washer (if equipped). 2. Install front fork stem bolt (2) and washer (3) from this kit. Properly adjust fork stem bearings. Improper adjustments affect stability and handling, which could result in death or serious injury. (00301a) 3. Perform the steering head bearing adjustment procedure following the instructions in the service manual. 4. Apply a small amount of LOCTITE 243 Threadlocker and Sealant (Blue) (purchased separately) to the threaded stud inside the chrome cover (1). 5. Install chrome cover to fork stem bolt. INSTALLATION 1. Install the grab strap (4) with the seat mounting studs (A) through the inner grab strap holes (F). 2. Refer to solo seat instruction sheet for installation of rider seat (C) and backrest (D). 3. Install the mounting nuts (E). 4. Tighten nuts snugly. 5. Slide slots on leading edge of passenger pillion (1) onto seat mounting studs (A) while sliding the pillion through the grab strap. 6. Install mounting screw (B) from stock seat through the mounting tab and tighten to 36-60 in-lbs (4-7 Nm) . After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b) 7. Pull on seat and pillion to verify they are securely installed. INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 2 and Table 1. Remove the saddlebag by opening the lid and turning the two bail head studs (1) 1/4 turn. Save the washers (A) and discard one of the studs (1). The rear stud and isolator will be replaced with new ones from the kit. NOTE Do Not remove the hinge assembly from the saddlebag lid. 2. See Figure 1. Drill the rivets out of the backing plate (C) from the lower rear saddlebag hinge. •Enlarge the backing plate holes by drilling with a #19 drill bit. 3. Remove the rear isolator and install the new rear isolator (2) from the kit to the saddlebag. NOTE It is recommended to use Loctite® 262, threadlocker and sealant on the threads of the hinge screws. 4. See Figure 2 and Table 1. Position the backing plate (C) inside the saddlebag and align with the rear hinge (B) and hinge stop (3) on the outside of the saddlebag. Assemble using the two TORX® head screws (5). 2 1 is05974 1. REMOVAL 1. Remove saddlebags from motorcycle following the instructions in the service manual. 2. See Figure 3. Remove grab strap screw and washer (G). Remove grab strap (H). Remove seat following the instructions in the service manual. 3. Remove left and right side covers (located in front of saddlebags) by removing screw from bottom of side cover. Save hardware and side covers for final assembly. 4. Support muffler assembly with a block of wood or other suitable method. For FLTR and FLHX Models 1. See Figure 3. Remove the screws (F) securing saddlebag guards to muffler supports. 2. Remove bolt (M) and nut (P). Save bolt (M) for installation. Discard nut (P). 3. Remove screws (B and C) and nut (E). Save screws (B and C) for installation. Discard nut (E). 4. Remove stud receptacle (I) and save for installation. 5. See Figure 1. Remove antenna bracket (1), mounting fasteners (2), antenna mounting nut (5), washer (4) and antenna adapter (3). Save the antenna and hardware, discard the bracket. 6. Remove support (D) and discard. 7. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for other side. For FLHTCU and FLHTC Models 1. Remove and discard screws (X) and guard rail mounts (W and V). 2. Remove screw (Q) and rear guards (U). Discard rear guard assembly including screws (T) and clamps (R and S). Discard screw (Q). 3. Remove and discard screw (K) and nut (L). 4. Remove screws (N and C) and nut (E). Save screw (C) for installation. Discard nut (E), screw (N) and forward guard. 5. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for other side. For All Other Models 1. INSTALLATION Preparation Models with main fuse: To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b) 1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the main fuse. Models with main circuit breaker: To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) 1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the seat and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Retain all seat mounting hardware. Installation NOTE Cover the work surface with an H-D Service Cover or clean shop towels to prevent scratching the finish of the outer fairing. 1. Remove the outer fairing per the instructions in the service manual. Lay the fairing face down on a sturdy work sur- face. 2. See Figure 2. Remove the mirrors (2), flange nuts (3) and plastic backing plates (4) securing the mirrors to each side of the inner fairing (1), and retain all items 3. Measure one inch (25 mm) straight down (5) from the large mirror stud hole in the inner fairing, and make a mark. 4. Drill a 1/4 inch (6 mm) diameter hole (6) through the inner fairing at the mark. 5. See Figure 1. Obtain a chrome wire collar (3) from the kit, and press it into the new hole from the outside of the inner fairing. Gently tap into place with a soft-faced hammer. 6. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 on the opposite side of the inner fairing. NOTE Ambient temperature should be at least 50 °F (10 °C) for proper adhesion of the mirror cover to the mirror. 7. Clean the back surface of the mirrors with the alcohol pad (7) provided. Allow to dry thoroughly. 8. Obtain the primer tube (8) from the kit, and follow the instructions on the tube to activate the primer. The covers install with the wire harness exiting from the bottom. 9. Obtain the correct mirror cover from the kit. Rub the liners on the three pads on the back surface of the mirror cover to activate the adhesive, then remove the liners. 10. Place the mirror cover over the back surface of the mirror and press into place for a minimum of 60 seconds. 11. Repeat Steps 8 through 10 for the remaining mirror and cover. NOTE The plastic backing plates (removed earlier) are identified with a letter “L” (left) or “R” (right) stamped on the post. The mirrors are marked with a letter “L” or “R” stamped on the swivel block. Use the correct backing plate for each mirror by matching the letters. 12. Position the mirror on the outer face of the inner fairing, with the rounded side of the mirror outboard and the Bar & Shield logo upright. a. Insert the mirror cover wiring harness through the chrome wire collar installed in Step 5. b. Insert the mirror post through the original mirror mounting hole. c. Place the correct plastic backing plate against the inner face of the inner fairing, engaging the two holes in the backing plate with the threaded stud and index pin on the mirror swivel block. d. Install the flange nut on the threaded stud and tighten to 30-40 in-lbs (3.4-4.5 Nm) . e. Repeat for the remaining mirror on the other side of the fairing

REMOVAL To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) 1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. INSTALLATION Installing the Turn Signal Stalk and Rear Docking Point 1. See Figure 3. Place the rear docking point (E) and recess cover (D) over the long threaded end of the new turn signal stalk (4) with the countersunk side of docking point facing outward. 2. Insert the turn signal stalk (4) through the rear mounting hole in the fender support and fender. Apply Loctite® 243 (blue) to the stalk and thread into fender mounting bracket. 3. Tighten the stalk to 12-18 ft-lb (16.3-24.4 Nm) . 4. Loosely install a jam nut (3) and a lockwasher (2) onto the short threaded end of the turn signal stalk (4). 5. Place the recess cover (1) into position over the recess on the turn signal housing. Insert the wires from the socket through the grommet into the turn signal housing, through the threaded hole and the recess cover, and into the turn signal stalk (4). NOTE Apply a drop of liquid soap to the wires to ease insertion through the stalk or use a thin wire to pull the wires through. 6. Route the wires through the turn signal stalk (4) until they are through the fender. 7. Install the turn signal housing onto the stud. Be careful that the wires are not twisted or damaged as the stalk and housing are assembled. The lockwasher will fit inside the hole in the recess cover. Hand-tighten the jam nut against the lockwasher. 8. While pulling the turn signal wires into the inside of the fender, guide the turn signal socket and grommet into the housing. 9. Align the rear turn signal housing so that when the lens is installed it is aimed rearward for proper visibility. While holding the turn signal housing in position, tighten the jam nut against the lockwasher to 8-10 ft-lb (10.8-13.6 Nm) . Connecting the Turn Signal Wires

INSTALLATION 1. Remove stock pillion from motorcycle according to applicable Service Manual instructions. 2. For FLSTN models: Remove the rear mounting bracket from the stock pillion, and save all the hardware. For all other models: Skip to Step 4. 3. See Figure 1. Install the rear mounting bracket (D) removed in Step 2 onto the touring pillion using the stock mounting screws (C). Tighten screws to 19 in-lbs (2.1 Nm) . 4. Install touring pillion (1) to double mounting studs (A) behind seat (B) by sliding the two slots in the pillion base into the grooves on the double mounting studs. 5. For kit 52930-05: Use the stock screw to fasten the rear seat bracket to the fender. For all other kits: Fasten the rear seat bracket to the fender using screw (6) in kit. After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. Installation SOLO SADDLE ONLY 1. Remove stock seat and grabstrap according to applicable Service Manual instructions. 2. Road King standard models . Remove and save the stock screws and seat mount bracket at the back of the rider solo seat. 2000 and later models . Remove the retainer washer from the stud plate and replace with two black retainer washers (2). Be careful not to allow stud plate to fall through the fender. 3. Road King standard models . Install stock solo seat mount bracket using two stock screws saved in Step 2. Road King Classic Custom models . Install solo seat mount bracket onto back of solo seat using bracket and screws included in Mount Kit Number 52903-01. 4. Install seat by sliding front of seat into seat holder bracket. Pull up on the nose of the seat to verify that the seat is securely installed. After installing seat, pull upward on front of seat to be sure it is in locked position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070a) 5. 1999 and later models . Install 1/4 in. star washers (6), spacers (4) and acorn nuts (3) onto rear mount studs. Torque to 72 in-lbs (8.13 Nm). 1998 and earlier models . Install 5/16 in. star washers (5) and 5/16-18 x 3/4 in. buttonhead screws (1) into stock mount nuts. Torque to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). SOLOAND PILLION 1. Remove stock seat and grabstrap according to applicable Service Manual instructions. Retain all hardware for later use. 2. Road King standard models . Remove and save the stock screws and seat mount bracket at the back of the rider seat. 3. Road King standard models. Install stock seat mount bracket onto new solo seat using two screws saved in Step 2. Road King Classic Custom models. Install solo seat mount bracket onto back of solo seat using bracket and screws included in Mount Kit Number 52903-01. 4. 1999 and later Road King standard models . Secure the rear mount bracket with stock mushroom nuts (10) and two 1/4 in. star washers (6). Torque to 72 in-lbs (8.13 Nm). 1998 and earlier Road King standard models . Install solo seat by sliding front of seat into holder bracket on bike. Secure the rear mount bracket with the two mushroom screws (11) and two 5/16 in. star washers (5). Torque to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm). Road King Classic Custom models . Mount Kit Number 52903-01 is required for installation. Install solo seat (7) by sliding front of seat into holder bracket on bike. • 1999 and later models . Using Mount Kit Number 52903-01, secure the rear mount bracket with the two mushroom nuts (10) and two 1/4 in. star washers (6). Torque to 72 in-lbs (8.13 Nm). • 1998 and earlier models . Using Mount Kit Number 52903-01, secure the rear mount bracket with the two mushroom screws (11) and two 5/16 in. star washers (5). Torque to 17 ft-lbs (23 Nm)

INSTALLATION 1. Secure the front wheel of the motorcycle. 2. Remove one hex nut, lockwasher and flat washer attaching the axle holder to the right-side fork damper tube. 3. Assemble a chrome flat washer, split lockwasher and cap nut from the kit to the fork damper stud, but do not fully tighten at this time. 4. Repeat with the remaining nut, lockwasher and flat washer on the other stud. 5. For 2000 and later models: See Figure 1. Insert a 7/16 inch drill bit (3) into the hole in the front axle (2).
