INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. It is anticipated that the smooth back side of the bags will be drilled to facilitate mounting, and that you will fabricate mounting brackets, spacers or supports. Mounting bolts with then pass thru the bags and, using the supplied fender washers, be secured to either your fabricated brackets, fender or fender struts. Most installations utilize the fender struts and their fender mounting locations for connecting the saddlebags to the motorcycle. Other locations can also include turn signal or top shock mounting points. Mount points should be as far apart as possible and use the fender washers supplied to provide a stable mount base and spread the mounting load and stress over the largest area possible. The bags can also be mounted utilizing aftermarket saddlebag support brackets and securely attaching the saddlebags to these brackets. 2. The saddlebags must be securely mounted to the motorcycle so that they can support any load that you intend to carry (less than 10 pounds per side) and so the bags clear all moving or suspension components thru the full suspension travel, even when the bags are fully loaded. Be expecially careful that the cantilevered bottom inside edge of the bag, and all other surfaces, clear all components such as shocks, swingarm, brake calipers, brake rods and lines, chain guard, etc. after installation. 3. Inspect the bags immediately after first use to determine that the bags are not interfereing with moving components. Inspect weekly thereafter to be certain that the bags are not contacting moving parts and that the bags are not developing cracks as a result of inadequate mounting support. 4. If the installed bags obstruct the original factory supplied side reflectors, please contact Saddlemen to purchase self-adhesive reflectors, which must be installed where they are clearly visible from the side of the motorcycle. LOCKABLE BUCKLES FEATUREDrifter and Desperado models feature leather straps with hidden lockable buckles. Once locked, bags cannot be opened. Cruis’n models feature lockable twistlocks, with small padlocks included.

1. It is recommended that you create a template from cardboard or heavy paper (not included) of the back of the bag to assist in proper placement on the motorcycle. The template can be used for both bags simply by flipping it over horizontally 180 degree for slant style bags. For all other saddlebags transfer template to other bag making sure that the hole pattern corresponds with the bolts pattern on the opposite fender strut. 2-Assemble the saddlebags support 2. Remove your existing fender strut mounting bolts. 3. (A*) Install replacement 8mm x 70mm or 10mm x 70mm bolts. (Most Harley-Davidson models will utilize the 8mm bolts. Please determine which bolts will fit your specific application prior to assembly. Your make and model of motorcycle may require additional hardware. (See your motorcycle owner’s manual). 4. Install 2 upright and secure tight enough to maintain position and secure with the lock nuts (Metric applications do not require lock nuts). Ensure that bracket angles are away from the bike. 5. Lightly apply a dab of engine oil and lightly coat the exposed bolts(C or D) and barrel bolt Hex- head (E) assemblies (Mark at 4 points for each saddlebag). You can also use a marker or pen to mark. Take the template or bag and place against the brackets. Hold and press firmly to transfer the oil to the bag or template. The oil will leave a mark on the bag or template. If you are not satisfied with the position of the bag wipe the oil off and repeat as many times as necessary. Note: Position according to your specific setup, ensure the bag will not contact hot engine or exhaust components. If planning on carrying a passenger, ensure that there is enough clearance for the passenger’s legs between the bags and the foot pegs. Make sure that the uprights DO NOT contact moving parts, including but not limited to suspension components. 6. Place the Saddlebag on a firm surface and drill 4 holes (make sure you drill holes according to the size of the bolt to be passed) into the back of the bag only, according to your oil drop pattern. Also be careful not to damage the large mesh pocket inside the saddlebag. If a template was utilized cut the corresponding holes into the template and place temple on the back of the bag and drill following above directions. The template can be utilized for both sides of the bag

(00311a) Installation of any accessory suspension components can affect cornering clearance. This could distract the rider, causing loss of control and death or serious injury. (00431b) NOTES This procedure requires that both shocks be removed prior to installing the new shock absorbers. You need to place the motorcycle on a center stand with the rear wheel raised off of the ground. The jiffy stand should be able to move through its full range of travel. Block the motorcycle under the frame so that the motorcycle is securely resting upright, the jiffystand may be moved through its full range of travel, and rear wheel is just off the ground. 2. Remove the lower shock mounting screw (1), washer (3) and nut (6) from the shock absorber (7). Save the hardware for reuse. 3. Remove the upper bolt (2), washer (4) and cover (5) and remove the shock absorber. Save the hardware for reuse. 4. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for opposite side and save the hardware. 5. Apply 2-3 drops of LOCTITE 243® (blue) on the threads of the lower mounting bolt, then install bolt, lower washer and nut to the shock. 6. Apply 2-3 drops of LOCTITE 243® (blue) on the threads of the upper mounting bolt, then install the shock cover, upper mounting bolt and washer to the shock. Verify the cutout in shock cover locates properly

INSTALLATION NOTE Internal shock absorber components are not repairable beyond the Service Parts listed on this instruction sheet. Consult your Harley-Davidson dealer if further service is required. The installation procedures for this kit are the same as the original equipment (OE) installation procedures in the Service Manual. INSTALLATION 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the seat. Perform this installation when the engine is cool. Working on or near the exhaust system when the engine is hot could result in severe burns. (00311a) Installation of any accessory suspension components can affect cornering clearance. This could distract the rider, causing loss of control and death or serious injury. (00431b) 2. Disconnect the battery cables, negative cable first or remove the main fuse if equipped. 3. Raise the rear end of the motorcycle so that the rear wheel is just off the ground. Support the motorcycle with suitable blocking under the frame. NOTE Retain the original fasteners for installation of new shocks. 4. Remove the saddlebags from the motorcycle. See the Touring model’s Owner’s Manual for saddlebag removal. 5. Fasten the air pump, part number 54630-03A to the rear air suspension adjustment valve on the motorcycle. See the Touring model’s owner’s manual for valve location. Add 3-5 psi to clear the line but do NOT exceed 50 psi. 6. Using the pressure relief valve located below the gauge on the pump, release the air pressure from the rear sus- pension. Use caution when bleeding air from the suspension. Moisture combined with lubricant may leak onto the rear wheel, tire and/or brake components and adversely affect traction, which could result in death or serious injury. (00084a) 7. Dynamics and design ofanovel aerodynamically efficient motorcycle 2 In order to facilitate this aerodynamically efficient posture, a number of design changes had to be made to the rider’sseatingposition, to the front and rear suspensions as well as the drivetrain[1]. Amass reduction is attained using a frameless construction in which the suspension components are attached directly to the engine. The new rear drivetrain is illustrated in figure (2). Fig. 2: Novel drivetrain and rear suspension that allows the rider to move his/her feet out of the airstream thereby reducing the machines drag. The new front suspension is shown in figure (3), which allows the rider’storsotoremain out of the airstream. This new low-dive front suspension arrangement also allows for improved engine cooling and compact packaging. Air HoseInstallation. Choose the most convenient loca- tiononyour motorcycle for the air fill valve. Drilla 5/16″hole and install the air fill valve as shown in Figure 3orsecure air fill valve to frame tube. 2. Keep hose ends clean during installation because dirt can cause air leaks. 3. Install hose connector, tube clamp and two O-rings onto one end of the air hose (See Figures4&5) Apply rubber lubricant (soap solution, not oil) to the O-rings to ease installation on the air hose& into the shock absorber inlet. Plastic connector should just bottom on fitting. Do not overtighten! The function of the nut is to hold everything together in place, the O- rings do the sealing. Fin- gertightenonly (10 in/lb maximum). 4. After routing the air hose, trim the length to fit air fill valve. Install hose connector, tube clamp, and twoO-rings onto end of hose (See figures 4&5). Lubricate as above and assemble to air fill valve. Use the same procedure formating hose. Important —leaveasmall amount of slack in hose near shock absorber to allow for the slight move- mentofthe shock. Caution! Do not install hose near ex- haustsystem, battery or any other sharp edges or seat movement. Keep hoses clear of moving parts such as wheels or suspension components. Do not allow hoses to have excess slack and sag below the motorcycle. The hoses could catch on road surfaces or debris and could be damaged while the motorcycle is in motion. 5. If necessary the air hose can be secured along the motorcycle’swiringharness with tie-wraps. 6. Testing: Inflate system to 50 psi. Apply soapy water solution to all connections and check for air leaks. If there are any leaks, disconnect the suspected fitting and check for dirt or damage to the air line or the O-rings. Remove any dirt or foreign matter, re-lubricate the O-rings and reinstall. If unable to locate the leak, remove rubber boot from shocks and submerge pressurized components under water (in- cludingT-Valve) and check for leaks. If you cannot solve the air leak problem, please contact our technical staff for assistance
