1. Mount new Baron Tach on handlebar in your preferred position. Ideal location is between handlebar risers. If mounted off-center, you can rotate tach face back to vertical (or any position you desire) by first loosening tach unit’s set screw (found either in handlebar area of housing or underside of housing, depending on tach style), then unscrewing tach housing’s bezel, rotating the tach internals, re-installing the bezel and retightening the set screw. 2. Secure handlebar clamp by first tightening the rear, flat side of clamp all the way down, and then tighten the tapered front side of clamp until tach does not rotate. There should be a small gap on the pointed side and no gap on the flat side when the clamp is correctly tightened. 3. Route tach’s wire harness lead under dash for simplest and cleanest installation. 4. Make your wire connections as follows: a. Locate the pink wire under the speedo (sometimes has a plastic bullet end on it). Cut the plastic off and splice the pink wire with the green wire from the tachometer. b. Find the orange wire and attach the tach power wires to it (usually blue & red from tach (incandescent) or red & yellow for single color LED tachs. On 7-color LED models it is red from tach and red from LED controller box) . c. Locate a suitable ground (usually a bare frame bolt) and attach the black wires from the tachometer and the LED controller box (if equipped).

Installation of the Speedway Instruments microTach+TM tachometer requires some basic mechanical skills, including removing decorative covers, cutting protective tubing around wires, and using suitcase splice connectors to splice existing wiring harness. These actions may void your warranty, and if done incorrectly may cause damage to your motorcycle. Only you know your capabilities, if you do not feel capable of making modification please have a qualified motorcycle technician install it. The microTach+ TM tachometer designed for 1999-2003 TC88 Harley Davidson motorcycles is designed to operate when connected to a dedicated Tachometer signal from the Electronic Ignition Controller. It is not intended to run off signals going to the ignition coil unless utilizing a Speedway Instruments Tach Adapter. WARNING: Damage may occur to the microTach+ TM tachometer or your motorcycle if micro Tach+ TM tachometer is connected directly to coil signals, you must use a Speedway Instruments tach Adapter (sold seperately) ! ! 1. Setup operations include 12/24hour clock, bar tachometer scale, shift warning RPM, numbers of engine rotation per signal, wheel circumference, units, odometer adjustment, units of temperature, temperature warning and fuel meter input resistance selection. These must be set up step by step. The computer will automatic reversion to main screen if no button operation for 75 seconds at any setting screen. 2. Press both MODE & RESET buttons to go into setting screen. In setting screens, press RESET button to add the flashing digit by 1 or convert units, press MODE button to confirm the digit setting and jump to next digit or next setting screen to be set. Press MODE button for 2 seconds at any setting screen to finish the setting and go to main screen. 3. It displays “12 or 24H and XX:XX-XX” symbols and AM/PM in case you select 12H. Operates buttons as descriptions of item 2 to finish clock and jump to 8,000/16,000rpm scale setting. 4. It displays 8,000rpm scale, presess RESET button to convert 8,000 or 16,000rpm. Press MODE button to confirm the setting and jump to shift RPM warning setting. 5. It displays ” RPM rXXX00 “. Follow the item 2 of button operation to finish the shift RPM warning setting and jump to engine specification setting. 6. It displays “SPC-X.X RPM”, the default value is 1.0; there are 4 options: 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 0.5. It means the numbers of engine rotation per signal. For example the value 2.0 means the engine rotate 2 turns to output a signal. 7. Press RESET button to move in loop sequence from one to another value of the 4 values. Press MODE button to confirm the setting and go to wheel circumference setting screen. 8. In “cXXXX” display, “c” means “Circumference”, following 4 default digits; flashing digit is digit to be set. Follow the item 2 of button operation to finish the wheel circumference setting and jump to unit setting. 9. It displays KM/h or MPH, each press of RESET button converts unit; press MODE button to confirm unit setting and jump to odometer setting. 10. It displays “ODO & 00000Xkm”, the “X” is tested odometer in factory, follow item 2 to setting a desired odometer and jump to thermometer unit setting. The setting screen will disappear when the odometer is over 30km or your setting is over 30km and returned to main screen. 11. It displaysm ” , or oFF”, each press of RESET button converts , or oFF; press MODE button to confirm temperature setting and jump to temperature warning setting. 12. It displays ” XXX” and the selected unit. Follow the item 2 of button operation to finish the temperature warning setting and go to fuel sensor input resistance setting. 13. It displays “100r and fuel tank symbol”, follow the item 2 to select 100, 250, 510 Ohm or oFF and return to the main screen. The fuel meter bar will disappear if you select oFF mode.

Installation To protect against shock and accidental start-up of vehicle, disconnect the negative battery cable before proceeding. Inadequate safety precautions could result in death or serious injury. Always disconnect the negative battery cable first. If the positive battery cable should contact ground with the negative cable installed, the resulting sparks may cause a battery explosion which could result in death or serious personal injury. Removal DISCONNECT ELECTRONIC SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER 1. Refer to applicable Service Manual procedure and remove seat. 2. Refer to XLH Service Manual procedure and remove fuel tank. On FXD models, remove fuel tank mounting bolts and lift tank. 3. See Figures 1 and 2. The 3-place speedometer sensor connector [65] is located on the frame beneath the seat. Remove connector from t-stud and disconnect. Detach sensor harness from left frame tube. 1 WARNING 1 WARNING 1 WARNING 4. Installation CONSOLE REMOVAL To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative cable first) before proceeding. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury (00049a). 1. Remove seat and disconnect battery, negative cable first. 2. Remove fuel tank mounting bolts. Lift fuel tank far enough to remove the speedometer sensor cable from the mounting clips under the tank. 3. See Figure 1. The 3-place speedometer sensor connector is located on the frame beneath the seat. Remove from t-stud and disconnect the connector. Cut the cable strap that holds sensor wires to right rear frame tube. 4. Remove instrument console mounting screws and lift console from tank. SPEEDOMETER REMOVAL 1. See Figure 2. Disconnect 8-place connector under console. Remove assembly from tank. 2. Cut remaining cable straps holding wires to instrument mounting bracket. Remove screws holding bracket to back of instruments. Remove bracket. 3. See Figure 3. Remove nuts and washers from terminal studs (1, 2 and 3). Remove wires from studs. 4. Unscrew the rubber function switch cover that protrudes from the left side of the console. Remove the function switch (3). 5. Gently push on bottom of speedometer and remove speedometer from top side of console. Remove gasket from speedometer. TACHOMETER REMOVAL 1. See Figure 3. Installation 1. See Figure 1. Remove and discard the two 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) long hex socket button-head screws (3) that secure the original console (1) to the fuel tank. 2. Remove and retain the 5/8 in. (16 mm) long hex socket button-head screw (4) securing the rear of the console to the rear of the tank. Lift the console and edging trim (2) from the motorcycle. 3. Lay clean shop towels on the fuel tank, flip the console over to expose the underside and lay it on the towels. 4. Unscrew the trip-meter reset button (12) and pull the reset switch (11) from the console opening. 5. Depress the connector tab and remove the 12-place connector [39B] (10) from the back of the speedometer (9). Depress the connector tab and remove the 12-place connector [108B] (7) from the back of the tachometer (6). 6. Remove and retain the four screws (14) and back clamp (13) from the speedometer and tachometer. 7. Turn the console over, face upward. NOTE When removing the speedometer and tachometer from the console, the gaskets may remain on the instruments. If this is the case, carefully remove them from the instruments for re-assembly to the new console. 8. Remove the speedometer and tachometer from the console (1). Carefully remove the gaskets (8) from the instruments. Move the console away from the vehicle. 9. Obtain the new Chrome console from the kit. Place the console on the shop towel-covered fuel tank NOTE Apply window cleaning fluid or mild soapy water to the instrument gaskets as needed to aid installation. 10. Place the speedometer gasket into position around the console speedometer (forward) bore. Fit the gauge into the bore so that it fits snugly against the rubber gasket. Rotate the gauge into approximate visual alignment. The back clamp will complete the alignment.

Indicates engine revs per minute. 3) Neutral (N) indicator ( green ). Illuminates when the gearbox is in neutral. 4) Fuel warning light ( yellow ). Illuminates when there are about 3 litres of fuel left in the tank. 5) Turn signal indicator light ( green ). Illuminates and flashes when the turn signal is in operation. 6) Engine oil pressure warning light ( red ). Illuminates when engine oil pressure is too low. This light should illuminate when the ignition is switched to ON and should go out a few seconds after the engine starts. It may come on briefly if the engine is very hot, but should goout again as engine speed increases. Important If this light (6) stays on, stop the engine to avoid serious damage. 7) High beam warning light ( blue ). Illuminates when the high beam headlight is on. 8) “Engine diagnostics light” ( amber ). The engine ECU illuminates this light steadily to indicate the presence of errors leading to engine lock. 9) “Motorcycle diagnostics” light . Illuminates when the motorcycle diagnostics detects a problem. 10) Rev limiter indicator lights . Indicator light 10A: illuminates steadily at 800rpm before intervention of the rev limiter. Indicator lights 10A + 10B: illuminate steadily 400rpm before intervention of the rev limiter. Speedometer INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS 3-4 3 EAU04436 Tachometer unit The electric tachometer allows the rider to monitor the engine speed and keep it within the ideal power range. The tachometer unit is equipped with the following: ● an odometer (which shows the total distance traveled) ● two tripmeters (which show the distance traveled since they were last set to zero) ● a fuel reserve tripmeter (which shows the distance traveled since the fuel level warning light came on) ● a meter lighting control ● a clock ● a self diagnosis device NOTE: ● Be sure to turn the key to “ON” before using the “SELECT” and “RESET” buttons. ● To switch the odometer, the trip- meters and the fuel reserve trip- meter displays between kilometers and miles, press the “SELECT” button for at least two seconds. INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS 3-5 3 Odometer and tripmeter modes Pushing the “SELECT” button switches the display between the odometer mode”ODO” and the tripmeter modes “TRIP 1″ and “TRIP 2″ in the following order: ODO→ TRIP 1 → TRIP 2 → ODO If the fuel level warning light comes on (see page 3-2), the odometer display will automatically change to the fuel reserve tripmeter mode “TRIP F” and start counting the distance traveled from that point. In that case, pushing the “SELECT” button switches the display between the various tripmeter and odometer modes in the following order: TRIP F → TRIP 1 → TRIP 2 → ODO → TRIP F To reset a tripmeter, select it by pushing the “SELECT” button, and then push the “RESET” button for at least one second. If you do not reset the fuel reserve tripmeter manually, it will reset itself automatically and the display will return to the prior mode after refueling and traveling 3mi (5km). Meter lighting control mode 1. Turn the key to “OFF”. 2. Push and hold the “SELECT” but- ton. 3. Turn the key to “ON”, and then after five seconds, release the “SELECT” button. 4. Push the “RESET” button to select the desired brightness. 5. Push the “SELECT” button to set the brightness level. 6. Turn the key to “OFF”. NOTE: When adjusting the meter lighting, the odometer display will indicate the brightness level. Clock mode To set the clock: 1. Push the “SELECT” button and “RESET” button together for at least two seconds. 2. When the hour digits start flashing, push the “RESET” button to set the hours. 3. Push the “SELECT” button, and the minute digits will start flashing. 4. Push the “RESET” button to set the minutes. 5. Push the “SELECT” button and then release it to start the clock. NOTE: ● After setting the clock, be sure to push the “SELECT” button before turning the key to “OFF”, otherwise the clock will not be set. ● To set the clock after the battery has been disconnected, first set the time to 1:00 AM, and then set the clock to the correct time

Ignition timing check 1. Ignition timing is checked with a timing light by observing the position of the rotor pointer and the marks stamped on the timing plate. The timing plate is marked as follows. “ll” Firing range for No. 1 (L.H.) “T” Top Dead Center for No. 1, fL.H.1 cylinder 2. Connect the timing light to the left cylinder spark plug lead wire. 3. Start the engine and keep the engine speed as specified. Use a tachometer to check the engine speed. B. PICK-UP COIL ASSEMBLY The method of mounting the pick-up coil assembly is changed for easier service work. Thus, the followings “Pick-up coil assembly removal” and “Pick-up coil assembly reinstallation” should be changed. Pick-up coil assembly removal Remove the pick-up coil securing screws and remove the pick-up coil assembly. Pick-up coil assembly reinstallation Install the pick-up coil assembly on to the stator assembly. _ L 4. Specified engine speed: 1,200 r/min The rotor pointer should be within the limits of ” fl ” on the timing plate. If it exceeds the limits or does not steady, check the timing plate for tight- ness and/or ignition system for damage. NOTE: Ignition timing is not adjustable. C. FUEL LEVEL The carburetor is furnished with a drain screw to provide easy access to service work. Thus, the following “Fuel level measurement” should be added. Fuel level measurement NOTE: Before checking the fuel level, note the follow- ing: 1. Place the motorcycle on a level surface. 2. Adjust the motorcycle position by placing a suitable stand or a garage jack under the engine so that the carburetor is positioned vertically. 1. 2. Connect the level gauge (special tool) or a vinyl pipe of 6 mm (0.24 in) in inside diameter to the float bowl nozzle left or right side carburetor. Set the gauge as shown and loosen the drain screw 3. Start the engine and stop it after a few minutes of run. This procedure is neces- sary to obtain the correct fuel level. NOTE: Make sure the fuel petcock is “ON” or “RES” oosition. 4. Note the fuel level and bring the gauge to the other end of the carburetor line and repeat step 3 above. Note the fuel level again and compare it with the previous gauge reading. They should be equal. If not, place a suitable size of wooden piece or the. alike under the center stand and adjust. 5. Check the fuel level one by one. The level should be in the specified range.
