Remove plastic center cap on steering wheel by prying off with a small screwdriver. Remove steering wheel nut and remove steering wheel by pulling up on wheel. If wheel is tight have a partner tap on the shaft while pulling up on wheel. Note: Do not mushroom threads on shaft. Remove all screws that retain dash to body of vehicle. Disconnect all electrical connections at back of dash. Mark all wires to ensure easy install. Remove lower steering shaft bolt at rack and pinion. Remove upper bolt at base of steering column. Remove the 2 bolts that retain the steering column to the frame and remove the column and the shaft assembly. Remove lower u-joint on steering column shaft & replace it with supplied u-joint. There is a welded wire retainer on the lower dash tube where the electric motor will sit. You will need to grind off this piece and smooth. Remove the master cylinder bolt closest to the driver side and discard bolt. Your motor and module has been shipped together bolted to the bracket. It is important to follow the install sequence to ensure a proper installation. The lower shaft on the steering motor is marked on the shaft and on the motor. These marks must not be changed. If you remove the shaft it needs to be installed back in the same spot.

Remove lower section of rear fender • Using care not to damage the threads, drill 1/8″ pilot hole up through subframe and rear fender (fig1) • Remove fender, enlarge pilot hole in upper subframe with 1/4″ drill, do not drill out threads- take care not to damage threads in subframe. • Enlarge holes in fender to 5/8″ • Install upper section of rear fender, insert enclosed 5/8″ spacers in fender holes (fig.2) • Install cross brace (bolt holes closer to front of bike) using enclosed M6 X 50mm button head bolt (fig 3) • Re-install lower fender section using original stepped washer with enclosed 6mm nuts (fig 4) • Install side brackets as shown in fig 5 – replace subframe bolts with enclosed flat head bolts at forward mounting points if necessary.

Place motorcycle on flat and level ground with side stand securely in place. Before installing fasteners we recommend you apply a small amount of Loctite ®medium strength #243 thread retaining compound (or similar brand) to the threads of the button head screws (a) referenced on page 3 and to the M8 x 50 fasteners supplied in Bag 914. (Thread Lock) INSTALLATION OF EYEBROW 1. Start on right side of the motorcycle and remove the 2 bolts from the fender and trim rail. Remove rear trim rail. Store bolts and trim rail, they will not be re-used. (5mm Hex Wrench) SPOOL ASSEMBLY, FRONT AND REAR 2. Assemble front and rear spool assemblies into the right eyebrow (4) and fender. Do not fully tighten. This will allow some movement which aids in the side plate installation. (5mm Hex Wrench) Figure 1. After final assembly fender mount screws will torque to: 22 Nm (17 ft/lb) 3. Repeat steps 1-2 for the left side fender assembly

If needed, use a heat gun to apply heat to the shift lever and shifter peg threads to aid in peg removal. 2. See Figure 1. Insert the screw through the peg into the shift lever. INSTALLATION Perform this installation when the engine is cool. Working on or near the exhaust system when the engine is hot could result in severe burns. (00311a) 1. Refer to the Owner’s Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the maxi-fuse. 1 4 3 2 is03621 1. Transmission top cover screw (3) 2. Upper and lower rear bearing housing screw (2) 3. Upper front bearing housing screw 4. Lower front bearing housing screw Figure 1. Interface Cover Installation 2. See Figure 1. Remove the two rear bearing housing screws (2) from the side of the transmission case. 3. Remove the oil level dipstick from the oil spout on the side of the transmission housing, wipe off and set it aside for later installation. NOTE Insert a clean shop rag into the oil spout opening while the dipstick is not installed. With the dipstick removed, small parts or other foreign material could fall into the transmission, leading to equipment damage or malfunction. 4. See Figure 2. Obtain the rear interface mounting bracket (1) from the kit. 5. Apply a few drops of Loctite 243 (Blue) to the threads of the two bearing housing screws removed in Step 2. Install the rear interface mounting bracket to the bearing housing with the screws, and tighten to 13-18 ft-lbs (17.6-24.4 Nm) . 6. See Figure 1. Remove the upper front bearing housing screw (3) from the side of the transmission case. Loosen the lower front bearing housing screw (4). 7. See Figure 2. Obtain the front interface mounting bracket (2) from the kit. 8. Apply a few drops of Loctite 243 (Blue) to the threads of the upper front bearing housing screw removed in Step 6. Hook the slot in the front interface mounting bracket under the loosened lower screw head. Install the bracket to the bearing housing with the upper screw, and tighten both screws to 13-18 ft-lbs (17.6-24.4 Nm) . 9. See Figure 1. Remove and retain the three socket head cap screws (1) that fasten the right side and left front corner of the transmission cover. 10. Remove and retain the screw fastening the rear brake line P-clamp to the rear fork bracket. 11. See Figure 2. Obtain the right rear interface cover (3), two chrome 1/4-20 screws (6) and two flat washers (7) from the kit. 12. From the rear of the motorcycle, bring the right rear interface cover into position behind the rear exhaust pipe, over the bearing housing. The hole in the top surface of the cover should be positioned over the right rear transmission top cover hole. 13. Loosely fasten the interface cover to the rear interface mounting bracket with the two chrome screws and flat washers. 14. Obtain the chrome top interface cover (4) from the kit. 15. Position the top interface cover over the transmission top cover, overlapping the tab at the top front of the chrome right rear interface cover

INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 2 and Table 1. Remove the saddlebag by opening the lid and turning the two bail head studs (1) 1/4 turn. Save the washers (A) and discard one of the studs (1). The rear stud and isolator will be replaced with new ones from the kit. NOTE Do Not remove the hinge assembly from the saddlebag lid. 2. See Figure 1. Drill the rivets out of the backing plate (C) from the lower rear saddlebag hinge. •Enlarge the backing plate holes by drilling with a #19 drill bit. 3. Remove the rear isolator and install the new rear isolator (2) from the kit to the saddlebag. NOTE It is recommended to use Loctite® 262, threadlocker and sealant on the threads of the hinge screws. 4. See Figure 2 and Table 1. Position the backing plate (C) inside the saddlebag and align with the rear hinge (B) and hinge stop (3) on the outside of the saddlebag. Assemble using the two TORX® head screws (5). 2 1 is05974 1. Install the saddlebag to the motorcycle using the longer bail head stud (1) from the kit and a washer for the rear of the saddlebag and the washer and front bail head stud previously removed for the front of the saddlebag. 6. Insert the legs of the sissy bar upright (A) all the way into the channels (B) of the sideplates (1 and 2) as shown. 2. Apply a few drops of Loctite 262 – Red to the threads of the button head screws (4). Thread the screws into the holes in the sideplate channels, and tighten to 96-120 in-lbs (11-14 N-m) . While standing behind the motorcycle, place the left-side and right-side front sideplate notches (2) into the front docking points (4) on the fender supports (3). Additional Parts Required 1998 through 2008 models require use of the original equipment (OE) load coil. 2009 and later models DO NOT require use of a load coil. Kit Contents There are no service parts available with this kit. INSTALLATION 1. 2008 and earlier models: Use a 2 mm hex key to loosen the bottom set screw of the antenna mast. ALL models: Unscrew the antenna mast from the antenna base. 2. Thread the new antenna mast onto the threads of the antenna base. IN SERVICE 2008 and earlier models: If a degradation of CB performance is detected: 1. Open the Tour-Pak. 2. Open the map pocket (if present), and remove the acorn nuts with flat washers. Remove the map pocket and molded liner from the Tour-Pak. 3. Check the routing of the load coil wiring (see Figure 2). Wire routing other than as shown can cause a degradation of the CB signal

ADJUSTING SPRING PRELOAD (STIFFNESS). NOTE: Shocks typically come set at their loosest (softest) setting. Adjustment range is approximately 4 full rotations. Step 1: Loosen preload adjustment locknut. (see fig. 1) Step 2: Using supplied special tool with a 3/8 ratchet, turn adjusting plate clockwise to stiffen preload & counter-clockwise to loosen preload. (see fig. 2) Step 3: Once preload has been set, lock down preload adjusting nut using blue (med strength) thread locker ADJUSTING RIDE HEIGHT. NOTE: Extending shock assembly lowers frame/fender height. Shortening shock assembly will raise frame/fender height. NOTE: Always check clearances during & after adjusting ride height. Step 1: Loosen ride height adjusting locknut. (see fig. 3) Step 2: Rotate end to desired height. Always leave at least 1 inch of threads engaged in the female threaded shaft. (see fig. 4) Step 3: Lock down ride height adjusting locknut using blue (med strength) threadlocker. (see fig. 5) Step 4: After adjusting ride height on both shocks, verify that they are the same length by measuring from their mounting points. (see fig. 6)
