Installation of the Champion EZ-Steer system is similar to the installation of the OEM triple clamp of your Harley Davidson FLH Motorcycle. We recommend that you use an OEM service manual and follow the prescribed disassembly, installation and torque specifications for the upper and lower clamp assembly. Before Installing Kit (2008 & Prior) The wiring bracket of the OEM upper triple clamp needs to be modified to fit the Champion upper triple clamp. After removing / disassembling the OEM parts from your motorcycle, position the OEM wiring bracket onto the Champion upper clamp as shown. Scribe the ID of the steering stem hole onto the wiring bracket and enlarge the hole to scribe line. This will allow the wiring bracket to fit over the new Stem Lock-Nut. Install OEM handle bar mount assemblies to Champion upper clamp using Item #5 (Handle Bar Mount Spacer). The spacers are used on top of the upper clamp. Installation Notes • Be sure to use the correct fork extension. Yellow 2002 and newer (non adjustable air pressure). Black for 2001 and older (adjustable air pressure). Be sure to double check the fork cap (Fork Tube Plug) being removed. • Reinstall the OEM O-rings on Item #7 (Fork Extensions) prior to installing in the fork tubes. • On some of the Road King models with chrome headlight Nacelle, Item #9 must be mounted underneath upper clamp Item #2 to ensure enough room for air fittings. • Be sure to replace fork covers in proper order, during installation of the fork tubes. • Thoroughly clean sides of steering neck and install self adhering rubber stops where steering stop screws contact frame. • Secure wires and cables clear of steering stop bolts. • Do not torque Item # 1 (½-20 x 1-1/4″ Hex Head Bolt) until fork tubes have been installed to assembly. • Note the torque specification for the items listed in the table below.

Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn. b. Then rotate the cable clockwise about 2.5 or 3 turns to align the marks. (See Fig. 4) 3. Install the steering wheel. a. Align the matchmarks on the wheel and steering main shaft. b. Temporarily tighten the wheel set nut. c. Connect the spiral cable connector. 4. Bleed Power Steering System (when applicable). 5. Check steering wheel center point. 6. Torque steering wheel set nut. See the applicable vehicle’s repair manual for the torque specification. 7. Install and center steering wheel pad. NOTICE: Make sure the pad is centered and installed to the specified torque. If the pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one. When installing the pad, take care that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts. a) Connect the airbag wiring connector. b) Install the pad after confirming that torx screws are in the screw case. c) Using a torx socket, torque the screws to the specification in the vehicle’s Repair Manual. (See Fig. 5) d) Install the steering wheel lower cover

INSTALLATION NOTES • Cover fuel tank with blanket or towels to keep paint from being scratched. • See the Touring Service Manual for the Fairing Removal procedure in order to gain access to the handlebar assembly. 1. For Touring Models: See Figure 1. Remove and save the the existing capscrews (C). Remove the handlebar assembly (A) and carefully allow gauges and handlebar to rest on motorcycle. Remove and discard cup washers (D), rubber bushings (E) and spacers (F). Install the new bushings. For All Models Except Touring: Remove and save the two capscrews (C) from underneath the upper fork bracket that hold the existing lower clamps (risers) (B) in place. Remove the handlebar assembly (A) and carefully allow gauges and handlebar to rest on motorcycle. Remove and discard the existing cup washers (D), rubber bushings (E) and spacers (F). NOTE The upper bushing and lower bushing must be oriented with flat side opposite from each other as shown. 2. Install the new polyurethane riser bushings (1) in place of the removed cup washers, bushings, and spacers. 3. Align components as shown in Figure 1. 4. Secure components with two hex head capscrews removed in Step 1. Insert the capscrews, from the bottom, thru the upper fork bracket, thru the bushings (1) and into the clamps (risers). See the service manual for the torque specification. 5. See the service manual and install the handlebars

REMOVING THE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Remove both left and right saddlebags and set them aside. 2. Loosen the bolt from the pinch clamp on the front end of each muffler. Note: On the older model Dresser, spread the clamps just enough to remove them. 3. Remove the two 5/16″ bolts that mount the muffler to the saddlebag supports. Repeat this step on the opposite muffler. 4. Remove the stock mufflers and set them aside. Note: It may be necessary to use a penetrating lubricant to loosen the muffler from the head pipe. INSTALLING YOUR NEW VANCE & HINES EXHAUST SYSTEM 1. Install one muffler clamp (supplied) over the front (notched end) of each muffler. 2. Slip the muffler over the stock head pipe, mount the muffler to the saddlebag support using the two stock 5/16″ bolts and tighten. Note : There is a different muffler for the left and right side of the motorcycle. The dent in each canister should always be facing in. This is to allow clearance for the swingarm. 3. Tighten the two muffler clamps. (Torque Specification 12 ft/lbs.) 4. Replace the saddlebags. 5. Be sure to tighten all hardware before starting your motorcycle. RE-JETTING INSTRUCTIONS Re-jetting the carburetor will result in realizing the “full” potential of this performance exhaust system. Vance & Hines offers jet kits for most applications. For fuel injected models, we recommend the use of Vance & Hines Fuelpak part number 61003. PLEASE NOTE: Every effort is made for Vance & Hines Exhaust Systems to provide improved cornering clearance. However, due to design and space limitations on some motorcycle models, ground and cornering clearance may not be improved and in some cases may be reduced. Be sure to follow proper installation instructions

1. Undo and remove the two screws and flanged sleeves (if fitted) from the rear of the riders seat. 2. Remove the seat. 3. Disconnect the battery, negative (black) lead first. 4. Locate the rear light unit wiring connector and disconnect it from the main wiring harness. 1. Rear light unit wiring connector NOTE Take care not to damage the painted finish of the mudguard. 5. Undo the four screws securing the rear mudguard to the frame, then remove the mudguard assembly from the motorcycle. 1. Rear mudguard fixings Warning Throughout this operation, ensure that the motorcycle is stabilised and adequately supported on a paddock stand to prevent risk of injury from the motorcycle falling. Warning A torque wrench of known accurate calibration must be used when fitting this accessory kit. Failure to tighten any of the fasteners to the correct torque specification may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident. 1 1 3 of 4 6. Position the dresser rail to the frame and secure with six of the supplied M8 x 20 mm bolts (four at the rear and one on either side at the front). Tighten the bolts to 18 Nm. Scrambler only – Fit four M8 washers between the dresser rail and the rear mounting points. 1. Rear mounting points 2. M8 washer positions (Scrambler only) 1. Front mounting point (left-hand shown) 7. Ensure the rear light wiring grommet is correctly located in the front edge of the mudguard then, taking care not to damage its painted finish, position the rear mudguard to the frame. 8. Ensure the mudguard is correctly located to the rear of the airbox then secure with the original fixings tightening them to 9 Nm. 9. Ensure the wiring for the rear light unit is correctly routed then reconnect it to the main wiring harness connector. Sissy bar installation 1. Using the M8 x 20 mm bolts and spacers, loosely secure each sissy bar to the dresser rail. 1. Spacers 2. M8 x 20 mm bolts 2. Fit an end cap to each sissy bar. 3. Using the supplied M6 x 12 mm bolts and nuts, secure the backplate to the sissy bars. Ensure the badge on the backplate is facing towards the rear of the motorcycle then tighten the fixings to 8 Nm

When a vehicle is so equipped, the pilot must be replaced. The pilot is located in either the engine’s crankshaft or in the center of the flywheel. To remove a flywheel-fit pilot, remove the flywheel from the engine and drive or press out the pilot from the backside of the flywheel. Press or gently tap new pilot into flywheel after flywheel has been machined (where applicable). For crankshaft-fit pilots, an effective means for removal is to select a drift punch or wooden dowel that fits snugly into the old pilot. Then, pack the old pilot tightly with grease. Using the drift punch (or dowel) and a hammer, drive the grease toward the engine. The grease will not compress and will in turn push the old pilot out of the crankshaft. Install the new pilot carefully using a bearing driver. NOTE: Do not grease new pilots. New pilot bearings come pre-greased (often with special synthetic grease). Bronze pilot bushings have oil in the pores of the material that grease will clog. For bushings, a few drops of 30W oil can be used if desired. PRESSURE PLATE AND DISC Install flywheel (refer to flywheel section above) . Always tighten flywheel to crankshaft bolts in a star pattern to manufacturer’s torque specification. Before installing the disc, make sure that it slides smoothly on the transmission input shaft. Apply a thin coat of high temperature grease (such as wheel bearing grease) to the splines of the input shaft. DO NOT USE ANTI-SEIZE! It does not cling to rotating parts. Slide the disc back and forth on the input shaft and remove any extra grease that squishes out of the splines of the disc. Do not get grease or oil on the disc facing. Any grease or oil on a disc facing can be removed with alcohol or brake cleaner if done quickly. Lay the disc on the flywheel noting the flywheel side of the disc and hold it in place with the alignment tool. Clean the pressure ring of the pressure plate with brake cleaner to remove the rust inhibiting coating. Do not spray the entire pressure plate with brake cleaner as lube for internal parts will be removed. Set the pressure plate on the flywheel dowel pins (if equipped) and hand tighten the hold-down bolts. With hand tools, tighten pressure plate bolts ½ turn at a time in a star pattern until the manufacturer’s torque specification is met. Remove the alignment tool. NOTE: Different brands of the same pressure plate may have a difference in appearance and uninstalled lever height. These are not issues. Appearance can vary greatly and the installed lever height will be the same.
