cars and light trucks built for sale in the United States after 1996 are required to be OBD-II compliant. The European Union adopted (directive 98/69/EC) a similar law in 2001 for gasoline- powered vehicles, and in 2003 for cars with diesel engines. SAE J2012 (Diagnostic Trouble Codes1) defines a set of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) where industry uniformity has been achieved. DTCs consist of an alpha character followed by four characters. estifying on behalf of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, Greg Dana, Vice President for Environmental Affairs stated, “Historically, about 75* percent of vehicle service and repairs are performed in non-dealer shops. The auto industry views these non-dealer shops as their partners in providing service to their mutual customers, the driving public. Automakers are required by law to provide all information to diagnose and repair engine, transmission, fuel, and emission control systems.”

Starting at the beginning of production for the 2002 model year for Lexus and 2004 for Toyota, a spin-off of the U140/U240 Four speed transaxle, designated as the U150/U250 series was born. This transmission is classified as a 5 speed transmission, although it has 6 ratio’s possible in the Drive position. The U150/250 is very similar to it’s smaller brother, the U140, and actually uses some of the same parts. This Transaxles shift points, and shift feel are electronically controlled by a Powertrain Control Module. This is accomplished by the PCM monitoring engine load and adjusting solenoid duty cycle to match pressure rise and shift feel. The PCM also monitors the turbine and output speed sensors to calculate gear ratio and the Transmission Range Sensor for gear selection.

The 1100X/F-TL interface module is used when installing remote start
products in Toyota/Lexus vehicles equipped with a factory immobilizer.
The 1100X/F-TL allows for easy interfacing between the remote start and
the factory immobilizer, while maintaining the integrity of the OEM sys-
tem. The factory transponder-based anti-theft system uses a small elec-
tronic chip hidden in the key to send a code to the vehicle’s transceiver
when the ignition is energized. The key must be placed in the ignition
and turned to the RUN position. This energizes a coil surrounding the
key, which in turn energizes the chip, which sends a code to the vehicle. If
the vehicle does not detect the code being sent, the vehicle will start and
then immediately shut off or will just crank, and the anti-theft light will
flash. The 1100X/F-TL provides a valid code to the vehicle whenever it is
remote started, but does not affect the immobilizer system during normal
vehicle operation; the immobilizer system remains fully functional

After we re-flash the ECM it will be in “Automatic Registration Mode” when you install it. The ECM is
expecting that when first powered up (by turning on a key) that it will encounter 3 new keys. The first two keys
are internally (inside the ECM) designated as MASTER keys and the 3rd key inserted will be internally
designated as the VALET key. The ECM can be programmed with as few as 1 key. If less than 3 keys are
programmed into the ECM the security light may flash for some time (hours to weeks) until the ECM “learns”
that it is apparently not going to get any more keys.
