INSTALLATION Preparation To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b) 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the main fuse. 2. For FLTR models only: Refer to UPPER FAIRING AND WINDSHIELD: FLTR: OUTER FAIRING: REMOVAL in the Service Manual, and follow the instructions to remove the outer fairing. See INSTRUMENT NACELLE: FLTR: REMOVAL in the Service Manual, and remove the instrument nacelle and bezel. For ALL models: Direct contact of D.O.T. 4 brake fluid with eyes can cause irritation. Avoid eye contact. In case of eye contact flush with large amounts of water and get medical attention. Swallowing large amounts of D.O.T. 4 brake fluid can cause digestive discomfort. If swallowed, obtain medical attention. Use in well ventilated area. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. (00240a)

INSTALLATION Outer Fairing/Windshield and Auxiliary Lamp Bracket Removal To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove maxi-fuse before proceeding. (00251a) 2 3 1 2 is 01215 1. Six-position connector 2. Four-position connector 3. Auxiliary lamp connector Figure 1. Disconnect Signal and Auxiliary Lamp 1. Remove Maxi-Fuse. Refer to SYSTEM FUSES, MAXI- FUSE in Service Manual. NOTE Since the outer fairing screws hold the windshield in place, the windshield may fall to the floor if not removed. 2. Remove the windshield and outer fairing. Refer to UPPER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD in Service Manual for the outer fairing/windshield removal procedure. 3. Disconnect auxiliary lamp and turn signal connectors. NOTE See Figure 1. On 2005 and prior year models, the left and right turn signals plug into a 6-place connector located on the left fairing support brace. On 2006 and later models, each turn signal plugs into its own 4-place connector located toward the bottom of the inner fairing on each side. 4. Using a T40 Torx® drive head, remove and save the four bolts securing the auxiliary head lamp bracket to the chassis. 5. Remove auxiliary lamp bracket from motorcycle. Turn Signal Assembly 1 is 01217 1. Triangular opening Figure 2. Insertion of Terminals Through Triangular Opening 1. See Figure 2. Insert wire terminals through the triangular opening in the turn signal mounting bracket included in the kit. 2. Fit turn signal housing onto bracket. 3. Apply a small amount of Loctite (243) blue (99642-97) to threads of hex head cap screw. 4. Tighten cap screw to 15-20 ft-lbs (20-27 Nm) . -J03753 1 of 2 Turn Signal Installation 1 is 01218 1. Turn signal wire Figure 3. Turn Signal Wire Routing 1. See Figure 3. Insert turn signal connector and wiring between bottom of fairing and top of outer fairing skirt. 2. Route turn signal wire under cutout on mounting bracket and place bracket onto motorcycle. NOTE Care must be taken so the turn signal wire is not pinched between turn signal bracket and motorcycle chassis. 3. Install washers onto turn signal bracket mounting bolts and apply Loctite 243 (blue) (99642-97) to the bolt threads. 4. Tighten mounting bolts to 15-20 ft-lbs (20-27 Nm) . 5. Route turn signal leads toward harness connector. Secure loose wiring with tie straps so wires do not rub against any sharp objects

INSTALLATION Preparation Models WITH maxi-fuse: To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove maxi-fuse before proceeding. (00251a) 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the maxi-fuse. Models WITHOUT maxi-fuse: To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a) 1. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the seat and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Retain all seat mounting hardware. 2. Remove the outer fairing. See UPPER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD (FLHX, FLHT/C/U), OUTER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD, REMOVAL in the Service Manual. Remove the fairing cap. See UPPER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD; FAIRING CAP: REMOVAL in the Service Manual. 3. Bleed the brake fluid from the front brakes per the instructions in the Service Manual. Original Handlebar Removal NOTE Cover the front fender and the front of the fuel tank with clean shop towels to prevent scratching. Damage to the finish could result. 1. Models WITH radio: Remove the radio. See RADIO: REMOVAL in the Service Manual. Models WITHOUT radio: Remove the storage box. a. The four socket head screws fastening the storage box to the left and right radio support brackets can be accessed through the oblong holes in the fairing brackets. Use a long shank ball-end socket to remove the screws. b. Pull the storage box forward to remove it from the opening in the inner fairing. Remove brake line components carefully. Damage to seating surfaces can cause leakage. (00320a) 2. Disconnect the front brake lines from the vehicle. See FRONT BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, FRONT BRAKE LINE, REMOVAL, FLHX, FLHT/C/U in the Service Manual

1.) Three minor alterations need to be made before the stock bars can be unbolted from the top triple clamp. These alterations will provide the necessary slack in the clutch hydraulic line, front brake hydraulic line and the two large wire looms running up to the left and right handlebar control housings. a.) Unbolt the metal wire guide that holds the clutch hydraulic line in place on the left side of the steering head. Flip the guide end for end keeping the offset to the outside (left) and place the clutch hydraulic line into the offset. Reinstall the two 6mm bolts (10mm heads) and torque to 7 ft. lbs. Make sure the clutch hydraulic line sits on top of the upper fairing mount bolt. See photo # 1. b.) Locate the left and right wire loom plastic guides mounted to the lower triple clamp. See photo # 2 (left side shown). Pull up on the wire loom with one hand while you feed the loom through the plastic guide with your other hand. About ½” extra slack should be fine. If the plastic guide pops open, simply re-gather the looms together and snap the guide back together. Some adjustment may be necessary after install. c.) CAUTION: Cover the fuel tank and the upper fairing sides with a towel / rag, etc. Carefully loosen the front brake banjo bolt located at the bottom of the front brake master cylinder just enough to rotate the line forward (roughly ½”). See photo # 3. This banjo bolt will loosen with a sudden snap and may move (loosen) more than you need. Keep your hands away from the brake lever as this may force brake fluid out around the banjo fitting. Move your hydraulic line as shown in photo # 3 and re-tighten the banjo bolt to 16 ft. lbs.
